This crop is mainly for ornamental use, but the Tagetus patula species is resistant to Pratylenchus penetrans. French marigolds are slow growing and are very susceptible to frost. Besides the root lesion nematode Pratylenchus penetrans, of which populations can be suppressed up to 99%, the crop is also non-host to beet and potato cysts nematodes and the most well-known root knot nematodes like Meloidogyne chitwoodi.
